The site of Udine, the most famous boulonnais mare in the world. Last update 28th of June 2008.

home page

this web site has been updated on 28th June 2011.

This site is dedicated to Ida who left us on the 3rd of January 2002

Her disappearance leaves an aching void in our hearts, in the heart of all those who met her and, very likely, also in the hearts of her horses all of whom she loved so sincerely and sometimes so passionately.
Our only consolation in the face of such injustice is the certainty we have, that she is waiting for us in the Paradise of Horses.

Bruno, StéphanieJean-Christophe and Jossua.

Hello, this is a web site dedicated to the Boulogne Horse and in particular to Udine, a Boulogne mare, that is 25 years old today and has been with us for more than 23 years.

This page presents :
-a reminder of all the possible origins of the breed
-information on the different types of Boulogne horses and on the history of their work, with for instance the famous fish carts
-some useful postal addresses
-a short bibliography
-some fifteen pictures.

This page allows access to the English, German ans Spanish versions as well as the site about the city of Sézanne (Marne, France) where Udine, the most famous boulonnais mare of the net, lives.

is a competition where draught horse teams must negotiate in about 24 hours the distance from Boulogne-sur-Mer to Paris, following the tracks of the former "chasse-marée" from the Picardie.
This race which is essentially based upon the regularity of the different teams, take place every three years (next in 2012).

On this page we have the pleasure to introduce you to the couple who bred Udine : Emile Dégardin and his wife. They represent the very type of the traditional boulonnais breeder. They deserve to be known.

thank you.
